No Stopping Oxx at Naas
Press Release Monday 19th of October 09
No Stopping Oxx at Naas
John Oxx's vintage year continued at Naas when Aspectoflove won the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Garnet Stakes. Fran Berry was in the saddle as stable jockey Mick Kinane finished down the field on Zaralanta. The Oxx/Kinane success story got back on track a half an hour later when Erdiyna battled hard in a tight finish to win the October Handicap.
Johnny Murtagh landed the feature race of the day, the Derrinstown Stud EBF Birdcatcher on Beat Surrender, trained by Ger Lyons. In another tight finish, Beat Surrender just held Moonreach to land the valuable prize.
The National Hunt action provided punters with a hot favourite in the Profile Systems Handicap Hurdle. Thousand Stars ridden by Ruby Walsh won like a favourite should with a very impressive 8 length victory. Curragh trainer Eddie Harty had a notable success with Baron De’l in the Kill Hurdle. The well fancied 2/1 shot who is a previous listed winner on the flat looks to be a useful recruit to jumping and should be capable of scoring at a higher level in the future.
The concluding bumper produced another promising prospect in Lucky William, the Tom Cooper trained gelding had a comfortable 7 lengths to spare over his nearest rival at the finish and is now set to embark on a career over hurdles. Aran Concerto and Pandorama have won the bumper on Birdcatcher day in recent years and have gone on to win a Grate 1 level over hurdles, on this basis Lucky William looks like one to follow in the coming months.
